Solar Energy

The plan has a graph that shows the increase of solar hot water energy used since 1989 (p. 19).

The following indicators related to solar are incorporated into the plan: per capita energy consumption, percentage use of renewable and alternative energy, and percentage use of solar or other alternative water heating sources (p. 23).

Facts about the environment include that 4% of homes get their electricity from solar heated water (p. 34).

The plan includes a discussion on energy and global warming and discusses why Hawaii, although it has tremendous renewable energy potential, continues to rely almost solely on imported fossil fuels (p. 35).

The plan includes a pie chart of Hawaii's sources of energy in 2003, which includes 1.27% from solar hot water (p. 35).

The Task Force suggested a 2020 benchmark on use of solar water heating sources (p. 66).
