Solar Energy

The township's zoning code establishes standards and limitations for the installation of solar and other photovoltaic systems, either as permitted principal or permitted accessory uses/structures (ยง16.6.10). It defines collector surface, renewable energy facility, solar collector, solar energy, solar energy system, solar panel, solar and photovoltaic energy systems.

Rooftop or building mounted solar collectors are permitted as accessory uses/structures in all zoning districts in the township on all permitted principal and accessory structures subject to various requirements including height, setbacks, and coverage.

Ground-mounted and freestanding solar collectors are permitted as accessory uses/structures in all zoning districts subject to requirements including lot size, surface area, location, height, setbacks.

Additional provisions, requirements, limitations, and standards apply for solar and photovoltaic energy systems as accessory uses/structures on preserved farmland, commercial farms, and other farms. Size, height, and location requirements exist for solar energy systems as permitted principle uses/structures in the Limited Manufacturing Zoning District. It also details zoning permit and site plan application requirements for solar collectors.
