The village's zoning code permits accessory solar energy systems in all districts subject to standards (Sec. 30.5.27). Roof-mounted systems are subject to district height limits, and ground-mounted systems must be screened from view and are included in lot coverage calculations. A building permit is required for all systems, and glare is prohibited (Sec. 30.5.27.2).

The code also includes a solar-ready construction provision; new buildings and remodels costing more than 50 percent of assessed value must provide a roof layout plan showing future accommodation of solar energy systems and owners must eventually provide for installation of one system. Conduit and junction box installation is required for PV systems, and copper piping and roof reinforcements are required for solar hot water systems (Sec. 30.5.27.3).
