The township's zoning code permits building-mounted and ground-mounted solar energy systems in all districts as accessory uses and exempts building-integrated systems (Sec. 27-512.C). Building-mounted systems may face any yard, while ground-mounted systems are subject to accessory structure requirements for the underlying district (Sec. 27-512.D). Ground-mounted systems are also subject to setback requirements and lot coverage restrictions and must be screened from street view if in the front yard (Secs. 27-512.F, I). Building-mounted systems are subject to height limits, and if mounted on a flat roof must not be visible within a 50-foot radius of the property (Secs. 27-512.G, H). A permit is required for installation. If the system is in violation of a code, the township may remove the system if the owner does not and charge costs and legal fees to the owner (Sec. 27-512.M).
