The city's Unified Development Code includes use standards for solar energy collector panels and systems, allowing them as accessory uses in all districts in compliance with standards (Table 1; Sec. 2.1.11). Standards address placement and height limits for pitched-roof and flat-roof as well as ground- or pole-mounted installations. Total coverage area of residential systems is limited to 1,000 SF per lot. Systems not meeting requirements or principal-use systems require special use permit approval.

In commercial and industrial districts, solar collectors and other rooftop structures may exceed maximum building height limits by 12 feet if compliant with size limits and rooftop setbacks (Sec. 4.1.B.2; Sec. 5.1.B.2).
