Solar Energy

The city's zoning ordinance provides provisions to encourage the installation of rooftop photovoltaic solar systems through Broward County's Rooftop Solar Challenge permitting process (Sec. 24-615). The code defines rooftop PV systems as permitted accessory equipment to all buildings and structures in all zoning categories subject to standards. Systems may not exceed the roofline height or be more than 5' higher than a flat roof. PV systems may be subject to more restrictive private covenants and do not have solar access protections. Solar access will be considered in city tree removals or relocations.
