Solar Energy

The township's zoning code defines "solar energy system" (§340-10.C).

A section on renewable energy systems (§340-92.1.C) allows accessory solar in all zoning districts if the system supplies power primarily for on-site use; system must be building-mounted or designed to minimize impacts. Solar is allowed as the principle use in ag, industrial, and campus industrial districts with a conditional use permit. Standards address interconnection, transmission lines, glare, setbacks. Roof-mounted systems may exceed maximum heights by 4 feet in industrial and CC districts. Ground-mounted systems must obey height limitations, setbacks, and lot and impervious surface coverage requirements. Includes decommissioning and revegetation clause.
