Solar Energy

In the city's draft Climate Action Plan, Natural Resources Goal H is to promote the generation and use of alternative energy to reduce emissions (p. 3-14). Related policies include establishing policies and programs to facilitate the siting of new renewable energy generation (NR 6.H.1), promoting and requiring renewable energy generation in conjunction with private development where feasible (NR 6.H.2), promoting and requiring the development of solar energy (NR 6.H.3), providing financing incentives and support for renewable energy projects (NR 6.H.4), and supporting the purchasing and use of renewable energy (NR 6.H.5).

The plan's section on measures notes that several local businesses have installed solar PV arrays (p. 4-3), as has the Port (p. 4-8). It describes and evaluates proposed community renewable energy emissions reductions measures of encouraging development of local renewable energy projects and offering incentives for installation of solar hot water heaters, solar pool heaters, and solar PV systems (p. 4-59), as well as considering alternative energy generation options in future municipal buildings (p. 4-63).
