Promoting Transportation Cycling for Women: The Role of Bicycle Infrastructure

This article addresses planning for the gender imbalance in the bicycle mode. Although the data are from Australia, the statistics correspond to other English-speaking countries. This is not true in countries with high rates of utilitarian cycling, such as the Netherlands. It finds that safety and driver aggressiveness are the biggest concerns for women transportation cyclists, and that separated facilities might be the most effective intervention.
