This article is a literature review of research on pedestrian crashes and safety interventions available to planners. The authors look at age, socio-economic status, and physical condition to see how they factor into the high number of vehicle-pedestrian crashes. They then review the measures available to planners to increase pedestrian safety, as well as those measures that might be effective, but are without the purview of planners, such as visibility-enhancing clothing on nighttime users.
