The county’s code of ordinances requires sidewalks in new residential and commercial developments on at least one side of local streets and on both sides of major thoroughfares and collectors (§59-94) . The county might require sidewalks to extend along public streets to connect to adjacent areas where necessary to accommodate pedestrian traffic to schools, recreation sites, commercial areas, and adjoining neighborhoods.
