This article introduces the demographic changes and resulting housing challenges that will require planners to be more responsive to the needs of older adults. It stresses the importance of proacting planning and lays out some zoning interventions, like floating zones, special use permits, and easing restrictions on accessory dwelling units, that can make a community more age-friendly.
