This article’s study looked at 5 U.S. cities and calculated that, while these cities spent between $13-$65 per tree, benefits ranged from $31-$89 per tree. These cities were Fort Collins, CO, Cheyenne, WY, Bismarck, ND, Berkeley, CA, and Glendale, AZ. Savings calculations considered energy savings, CO2 reductions, air quality improvements, stormwater runoff reductions, and aesthetic value. This came to an annual return of between $1.37-$3.09 on each dollar spent.
