Tree Preservation and the Urban Forest 

The city’s comprehensive plan includes extensive urban forestry policy recommendations. The Urban Forestry section of the Natural Environment element includes three high-level goals: achieving widespread appreciation of the benefits accompanying urban trees, achieving a canopy cover of 29 percent by 2034, and ensuring its landscaping is sustainable and attractive. These goals are supported by 30 policies, such as prioritizing shade trees over ornamental ones, and are followed by a list of implementation strategies.
