Tree Preservation and the Urban Forest

The city’s urban forest plan includes policy recommendations for public and private trees. It proposes an adaptive management and monitoring approach that involves consistent monitoring of their urban forest (and their program’s implementation and effectiveness) to allow for empirically-based decision-making. Objectives include developing an urban forest management plan, requiring certification of tree care companies, and conducting neighborhood education programs. Proposed actions are sorted by a set of criteria: Species Suitability, Canopy Cover, Species Diversity, Diameter Distribution, Tree Heath, Wind Resistance, Species Longevity and Condition Assessment. The plan provides frameworks for working with neighborhoods and institutions.
