Environmentally Sensitive Areas
The county’s zoning code includes provisions to protect environmental resources and buffer areas. A section on permitted uses identifies activities that are allowed within environmentally sensitive habitat areas and buffer areas (§8174-4). It lists specific standards for proposed developments located close to habitats (§8178-2.4) and outlines a need to evaluate new developments for hazards, including geologic hazards, floodplains, and shorelines (§8178-4.1).
Small Wireless Facilities and Wireless Facilities in the ROW
The Highway Encroachments division of the county's municipal code addresses wireless telecommunications facilities in the public right of way. It defines "small cell" installation types (§12803) and establishes these facilities as the preferred installation type in rights-of-way, providing general locational and aesthetic standards for right-of-way installations (§12806). Small cell installations are subject to basic review requirements (§12808).
