Home Occupations

The town’s zoning code permits home occupations by right subject to use-specific standards (§490.709.D.1). Home occupations must comply with location and space, dwelling modification, employee, storage, parking, display, sign, traffic, nuisance, materials, and delivery standards (§490.709.D). A home occupations permit must be obtained and renewed yearly (§490.709.C).

The code does not explicitly address on-site sales or client/customer visitation. However, standards prohibiting auxiliary entrances and exits, and the listing of the home occupation’s residential address in advertisements, serves a similar function (§§490.709.D.7 & 490.709.D.12).

The code permits home occupations in renter-occupied dwellings, subject to written approval from the property owner (§490.709.D.3).
