The county code's animals chapter was amended in 2013 to address the keeping of chickens on residential property (§2-4-48). The ordinance provides definitions and permits the keeping of 4 chickens on residential property for personal use only. Requirements address enclosures and prohibit slaughtering; provide standards for enclosure location, setbacks, size and construction; and address health and sanitation. Agricultural properties and bona fide farms are exempted from requirements.
