Food Systems | Urban Livestock
The county code's animal title includes a chapter regulating domestic fowl (§8.03.120). It permits the noncommercial keeping of chickens and ducks on single-family and duplex residential lots within the county. The code addresses the prevention of nuisances (§8.12.020) and prohibits egg sales and allows on-premise slaughtering in areas not visible to the public (§8.12.030). An annual permit from animal services is required (§8.12.040). Allowable numbers of adult and baby fowl range from 3 to 8 based on the zoning district (§8.12.050). Standards address coop location, setbacks, size, construction, and sanitation (§8.12.050–160).

The Residential Compatibility Overlay Zone authorizes applicants to develop residential infill by right according to baseline standards, to develop in accordance with contextual development standards through a ministerial review process, or to deviate from baseline and contextual standards through a discretionary review process.
