Environmentally Sensitive Area

This guide explores methods to protect critical areas in the state of Washington using regulatory and nonregulatory approaches. It proposes that developing a critical area protection program requires identification and mapping of critical areas, a review of best available science, aligning goals and policies in comprehensive plans to support area protection, and adopting protection measures. Section V1 identifies appropriate strategies by critical area location and provides guidance on drafting and adopting regulation, including public involvement and intergovernmental coordination.
