Environmentally Sensitive Areas

The county’s regional plan includes policy statements that aim to protect of environmentally sensitive lands through a transfer of development rights program. It specifies that the distribution of land use in the region shall follow environmental threshold carrying capacities (DP-1), discourages development in environmentally sensitive areas (LU-3.5), and encourages concentrated development in urban centers (LU-3.6). Additional policy statements specify that area plans shall include strategies that address sensitive area preservation (CD-2.1), supports activities that reduce development rights on sensitive lands (WQ-1.4), and encourages a consolidated approach to sensitive lands restoration (DP-3).
