Environmentally Sensitive Areas

The town’s zoning code includes development standards for developments close to environmentally sensitive areas (§16-461 et seq.). It discusses an application process for development, river and stream setbacks, floodplain areas, riparian and wetland areas, wildlife habitat areas, and exempt development activity.

Outdoor Lighting

The town’s zoning code includes an article that addresses exterior lighting (§16-431 et seq.).The ordinance was passed to regulate increased urban exterior illumination resulting from a significant expansion in population and construction. It includes a purpose statement, definitions, and establishes requirements for outdoor lighting plans for various types developments. Standards are provided for street and common area lighting, residential lighting, nonresidential lighting, and signs; provisions address shielding, maximum illumination levels, and light trespass thresholds. The ordinance also lists exemptions and prohibitions.
