Biophilic Planning

This city’s municipal code creates a river improvement overlay to create a transformed Los Angeles River, which will provide residents more opportunities to interact with nature. The River Improvement Overlay will help create areas that allow for walking and biking along the river, along with creating ecological restoration and promoting native vegetation. The River Improvement Overlay provides guidelines for development along the river to achieve those goals.

Integrated Water Resource Managment

Los Angeles’ code includes a low-impact development ordinance, which includes requirements for stormwater control in development and redevelopment projects in compliance with the Standard Urban Stormwater Mitigation Plan (§64.70).  It integrates LID practices into stormwater management  to ensure rainwater capture at its source and mitigate runoff in the case of development and redevelopment projects, while maximizing open, green and pervious space on all projects.
