Farmland Protection 

The National Assessment of Agricultural Easement Programs, a joint project of American Farmland Trust and the Agricultural Issues Center of the University of California, Davis, produced this four-report series reviewing the progress and experiences of 46 leading agricultural conservation easement programs in 15 states.

Report 1 offers profiles of the 46 municipal, county, and state programs assessed.

Report 2 examines the farmland acquisition strategies and criteria of these programs. 

Report 3 examines local farmland protection planning tools, including agricultural zoning, cluster development, and urban growth boundaries.

Report 4  examines these programs against 5 different tests of effective farmland protection and offers recommendations for improvements.
