Agritourism | Food Systems

The county’s zoning ordinance addresses agritourism. The code defines “tourist destination” as a use allowing the rehabilitation and reuse of existing historic structures in the county while allowing for continued agricultural use of the property and preservation of the structure; allowable uses include overnight accommodations, restaurants, public tours, gift shops, and special events (§306A).

In the Agricultural district, tourist destinations are permitted by right as principal uses (§701.2). Roadside stands and on-farm markets are permitted accessory uses (§701.3). Included as conditional uses are agri-tourism enterprises and agricultural tourism, as well as agriculturally related bed and breakfasts and “expanded” tourist destinations (§701.4). The code provides definitions for a number of agritourism-related terms and uses (§701.8).
