This state code authorizes the State Board of Forestry and Fire Protection to classify the responsibility areas under state lands on the basis of cover, watershed benefits, erosion impacts, and fire risks and hazards. The board then conducts an assessment based on the above criteria and determines the intensity of protection to be provided to these lands

It also states the requirement for the preparation of a plan by the board for determining adequate statewide fire protection of state responsibility areas. In this plan, all lands are to be assigned the same intensity of protection, and the estimated cost for protection are determined accordingly.
