Outdoor Lighting

The township’s zoning ordinance includes a section on outdoor lighting (§13.01 et seq.). This dark-sky-base ordinance seeks to minimize light pollution and overlighting.

It specifies lighting plan requirements for all site plan submissions.  Standards for freestanding pole lighting address fixture design, lighting levels, height, and duration; building-mounted lighting must be full cutoff or shielded. Additional standards address architectural lighting of building facades, sign/canopy lighting,  and flagpole lighting. The ordinance lists prohibitions and exemptions, addresses fixture substitutions, and requires full cutoff or shielded fixtures for residential and agricultural uses to prevent light trespass and glare.
