Scenic View Protection

The county’s Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area code includes provisions to protect scenic resources, including scenic corridors. It includes standards for new developments, such as maintaining existing topography and vegetation maintenance, and additional standards for developments visible from key viewing areas, including requirements related to building color and maintaining building heights below skylines (§22.18.020 et seq.). Scenic travel corridors are protected through building setbacks, recommendations for underground signal wires or powerlines, and restrictions on mineral extraction projects (§22.18.050).
