Wildland-Urban Interface

This interactive map represents the official “Maps of Fire Hazard Severity Zones in the State Responsibility Area of California.” It is based on relevant factors such as fuels, terrain, and weather. Fire Hazard Severity Zones (FHSZ), state the basis for application of various mitigation strategies to reduce risks to buildings associated with wildland fires. These zones are associated with the requirements for building codes, building standards and defensible spaces of structures in the wildland-urban interface zones.
