This report describes the benefits of LED street lighting technology, examines LED street lighting barriers, and recommends strategies to promote municipal streetlight conversion programs. It assesses the current status of LED street light conversion barriers — technical, regulatory, and financial — in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic region. It provides a quantitative analysis of the regional street lighting efficiency opportunity and a recommended strategy to address the barriers and achieve large-scale conversion, setting a goal of converting 30 percent of all street lights to LED by 2020. Finally, the report provides state-by-state information on activities and progress across the region to install LED street lighting.
