Outdoor Lighting

The county’s comprehensive plan addresses outdoor lighting. In its Planning and Land Use section, it establishes dark-sky goals for natural resource, rural communities and villages, and transition policy areas within the county (PLU 1.2.2(f), 1.3.2(f), 1.5.2.(c)).

In the Environmental Resources section, it sets goals around decreasing light pollution (ENV 6.0), promoting a state-wide dark skies initiative (ENV 6.1), and requiring shielding to avoid light trespass for new development (ENV 6.0. 6.1, 6.2).
