The town’s Environment code within the code of ordinances addresses outdoor lighting (§20-337 et seq.). It regulates outdoor lighting in the industrial, commercial, office, and institutional areas of the town to eliminate problems of glare, minimize light trespass, and help reduce energy costs. The ordinance offers definitions and describes a light measurement technique. General regulations address boundary illumination levels and control of glare. The ordinance offers regulations for specific uses, including parking lots, outdoor display areas, vehicular canopies, outdoor recreational facilities, and outdoor advertising. It also addresses landscape and holiday lighting as well as security lighting. The ordinance provides information on permits, grandfathering of nonconforming fixtures, variances, prohibitions, and exemptions.
