Outdoor Lighting

The village’s zoning code addresses exterior lighting (§11-20-1 et seq.). The ordinance, based on dark-sky principles, was adopted in 2013 and applies to all development except single-family residential. It offers definitions and describes permit application submittal requirements, and requires postconstruction inspection of lighting to check for glare. The ordinance provides general requirements for all exterior lighting fixtures, as well as specific requirements for parking lots and access drives, auto service stations and drivethroughs, building-mounted security and architectural lighting, signs, and decorative lighting.
