Outdoor Lighting

The town’s unified development ordinance includes a section on outdoor lighting (§7.02). The ordinance is intended to provide for safe and uniform outdoor lighting levels while protecting against light trespass and glare.

General requirements address maximum light levels, fixture height and mounting, and fixture type requirements by zoning district; other provisions address wall pack lights, vehicular canopies, flag and statue lights, and floodlights. Glare is prohibited in the public right-of-way. The ordinance describes requirements for lighting plans. It offers special lighting regulations for sport and athletic fields, areas of outdoor display, and loading areas. It lists exempted and prohibited lights, and provides standards for temporary permitted lights.
