Outdoor Lighting

The county’s zoning code addresses outdoor lighting (§24-129 et seq.). The intent of the ordinance is to protect against glare and light trespass, promote energy efficiency, and preserve the county’s visual character. It details the requirements for lighting plans when required. General standards seek to prevent glare and nuisance lighting, addressing horizontal surfaces, nonhorizontal surfaces, light trespass, fixture height, coordination with landscape plans, and temporary lighting. The code offers illustrations of acceptable and unacceptable lighting fixtures and applications.
