Autonomous Vehicles

This report discusses connected and autonomous vehicle (AV) technology, federal and state level policy approaches, and considerations for moving forward with autonomous vehicles in Kentucky. It presents examples of processes to create supportive environment for AV implementation, as well as drawbacks of technology implementation include increase vehicle miles travelled, cost of building new infrastructure, and high costs for consumers. Additionally, it contains links to enacted and proposed bills, a model of state level policy, and recommendations for best practices from the Texas Department of Transportation.
