Home Occupations

This report discusses local programs and initiatives that support home-based businesses (and other microenterprises) that make tangible products. The authors refer to this cohort as maker-microbusinesses (p.3). The report suggests local leaders should advocate for supportive state policies, including reviewing home-based business regulations (p.15).

Recommended initiatives for creating a maker-supportive local environment include: coordinating with local economic and business development institutions, investing in maker-microbusiness incubators, and providing access to capital and broadband services (p.10-12).
