Form-Based Zoning

This fact sheet discusses what form-based codes are and why they are effective. It includes also how a community should prepare a form-based code. It describes three major steps when preparing a form-based code:

1. Existing conditions analysis and inventory
2. Public visioning and charrette
3. Determine appropriate spatial basis for regulation
4. Develop urban standards
5. Develop architectural standards
6. Allocate and illustrate standards

It includes a couple examples of municipalities that have adopted a form-based code.
