Wind Energy

The city’s zoning code defines and regulates wind energy systems by size – residential, small, utility – and by axis – horizontal and vertical (§24.4). It defines residential, small, and utility turbines by rated capacity.

It permits some wind turbines in certain districts, subject to use-specific standards (§§24.405.a & b.2). It allows taller systems with a discretionary use permit, subject to use-specific standards (§24.407). Setback standards are equal to wind energy system hub height.

It includes these wind energy standards in the Alternative Energy Systems section, whose purpose statement contains renewable-supportive statements derived from the local comprehensive plan (§24.402).
