Wind Energy

The town’s zoning code permits accessory and primary-use wind energy systems and incentivizes accessory wind energy development.

It permits accessory wind energy systems by right in all zoning districts, subject to use-specific standards (§5.24). These standards address maximum height, setbacks, illumination, performance standards, and abandonment.

It permits primary-use systems with a discretionary use permit in multiple districts (§3.2.3, §3.3.3, §3.4.3, §3.5.6, §3.7.8, §3.8.5, §3.9.5, §3.10.5, §3.11.3, §3.12.3, §3.13.3, §3.15.3).

It offers bonus density for projects in Village Growth Area zoning districts that incorporate wind energy systems (§2.9).
