Short-Term Residential Rentals

This report from the New York State Office of the Attorney General was the first to examine Airbnb’s short-term residential rental data to explore how New York City residents used this platform from 2010 through 2014 and investigate the industry's impacts on housing in the city. The analysis uncovered a number of concerns about the short-term residential rental industry in the city, including a disproportionate share of units offered by commercial users, displacement of long-term housing options, and operation of illegal hostel uses through the platform.
