Short-Term Residential Rentals

This ordinance, passed by the Village in 2018, regulates short term residential rentals, limiting them to owner-occupied properties to protect long-term housing in residential areas and requiring special use permit approval.

The ordinance establishes a definition for short term rental that includes the previous “tourist accommodation” use (§300-84). Short-term rentals are permitted in single-family dwellings in residential districts and in any building type in business and commercial districts; an on-site operator is required. The ordinance establishes standards for new short-term rentals that address maximum occupancy, parking, access, and lighting (§300-17.1). The ordinance also addresses three-year special use permit and annual registration requirements, and it lists conditions for permit termination.
