This briefing paper discusses the importance of fostering youth and family participation in the planning process. It describes the benefits of participation, including integration and more successful plan implementation, and provides lists of actions planners can take to better engage parents and youth. Family-friendly participation is described as local, open and transparent, a value-added process, and a means to an end.
