This article emphasizes the gender dimension of creating age-friendly communities. Because women tend to outlive men and face less economic security at all life stages, ensuring a decent quality of life into old age can be a more difficult task. Building communities that are age-friendly can empower both aging women and women serving as caregivers for aging friends and relatives to remain active members of their communities.
