This article provides a comprehensive literature review of the international research on age-friendly communities and discusses the impact this has had on Australian planning efforts. Table 1 features a graphic depicting the key features of an age-friendly community by different models, organized on a continuum from social environment to physical infrastructure. The authors urge planners to be proactive when it comes to planning age-friendly communities and to emphasize the role of the social environment.
