Age-Friendly Communities

The town’s zoning code creates special standards for seniors and people with disabilities applying for home modifications (Chapter 217, Part 3). It provides building permit fee exemptions for construction related to improving access, safety, and independent living (§217-29), priority review and expedited approval (§217-30), and an exception from applying for an area variance from the Zoning Board of Appeals to improve entrance routes (§217-31). These standards make it more efficient for older adults to make simple home modifications that allow them to age in place.
