Benefits of Compact, Mixed Use Development

This report describes the impact that different urban densities have on greenhouse gas emission, and therefore climate change. It also discusses the impact that urban forms have on the vulnerability of resident populations to climate change. It concludes that there is no ideal size for cities, and that future development decisions must be based on local existing conditions. The author states that more compact urban development will not build resilience to climate change unless policymakers also address issues of employment and transportation.
