Benefits of Compact, Mixed Use Development

This article measures the impact of walkability on single-family property values in Austin, Texas. Walkability is measured using the Street Smart Walk Score (SSWS) and sidewalk density (SWD), understood to be impacted by factors like neighborhood safety and pedestrian collision rate. The authors conclude that neighborhoods should improve walkability to increase home values, and therefore tax revenue, in the long term.
