Benefits of Compact, Mixed Use Development

This article reports that black residents of the San Francisco Bay Area are less likely to live in walkable areas. It also analyzes push and pull factors influencing housing choice using qualitative interviews. The author concludes that planners should promote walkable neighborhoods in urban and suburban contexts in order to counter the geographical unevenness that leads to inaccessibility.
