This article uses a multilevel analysis to conclude that there is an association between urban sprawl and obesity. A one-point increase in the urban sprawl index increased the risk of being overweight by 0.2% and for being obese by 0.5% after controlling for other variables. The author was not able to establish a direct causal relationship but calls for continued research into this issue.
